What Should Be The Best Angle For A Solar Panel Installation?

2nd July 2021

With the advancement in technology, Indians have understood the importance of solar panel installation. Ashish Khanna, President of Tata Power, has said that by 2050, the percentage share of renewable energy providing electricity will be 86%, and out of this, 66% will be through solar energy.

Many families have decided to generate electricity through solar panel installation. They are ready to invest their money to buy solar panels for their homes, but they usually ignore an important factor while the panels are installed. The factor missed is the angle for the solar panel.

Many solar panel owners think they can ask any local technician to install the solar panels. Still, the angle at which your solar panels should be set is as important as the quality of the solar panel.

Factors that make a roof more suitable are:

Angle

The angle between the rooftop ground and solar module, referred to as the angle for the solar panel, depends on your area's latitude and graphical location. It is said that the solar panel will generate the maximum energy when the angle is near the value of the latitude. The installer should install the system at the best angle for solar panels.

Here is a small table mentioning the latitudes of different Indian states. It will give you an estimate for the best angle for solar panels:

States

Latitudes

Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab

30 - 36 degrees

Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan

24 - 30 degrees

Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha

18 - 24 degrees

Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana

12 - 18 degrees

Along with the angle for solar panels, there are some other factors that you should keep in mind during the installation process so that you get the maximum energy output from the panels.

The direction of the solar panel

Your solar panels should ideally face the South direction as they receive the maximum amount of sunlight in this direction. West and East are also preferred but avoid facing the solar panels in the North direction. The panels receive the minimum amount of sunlight when they face the North direction. It will be a waste of your money and energy.

Location

There is a major difference in the amount of sunlight that different parts of India receive due to its geographical location. Some parts receive a lesser amount of sunlight, while some receive the maximum amount of sunlight throughout the year.

Shadow area

Ensure that the place on the rooftop where the solar panel will be installed does not have any shadow from a tree or another building.

Installation surface

The rooftop surface should be smooth and stable enough to handle and balance the weight of the solar panels.

Hopefully, none of you will make the mistake of ignoring the angle of the solar panel anymore.
